Italian MEP promotes vaping

After the Lega Italiana Anti Fumo (LIAF) addressed the European Parliament on the benefits of vaping, Giovanni La Via, Italian MEP has written a powerful letter in support of e-cigarettes.

The letter was published in The Parliament Magazine which is circulated to Europeans MEPs, the Council of Ministers, the European Commission and the European Court of Justice. La Via is of the believe that vaping is part of the solution to Europe’s serious health problem. We, as the VPA, couldn’t agree more. It’s not only Europe’s big problem, but it’s a global problem and an epidemic of smoking-related diseases that plaques the world. E-cigarettes are already proving to lower smoking rates significantly in countries like the UK.

In his letter, La Via calls out governments for ignoring science and facts. “Ignoring the science that tells us that e-cigarettes are less harmful than conventional cigarettes are a mistake. Incorporating e-cigarettes as part of the solution to stop smoking is a step that Europe needs to take,” said La Via.

He is pleading the European Parliament to work together with the scientific community to protect its citizens by implementing a harm reduction strategy.

We’ll be keeping an eye on developments, but we hope that La Via’s letter will urge others to speak up and show their support for this life-saving cessation method.
