Vaping is the most successful smoking cessation tool

Vaping has become increasingly popular over the last couple of years. A recent study found that smokers who use vaping as a smoking cessation tool fair better than any other group.

Data from the 2013-2014 Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study was used to compare the popularity and success of different smoking cessation tools. These included going cold turkey, sanctioned nicotine replacement therapies such as gum and patches; and prescription drugs.

The research clearly saw that vaping is the most popular go-to choice for smokers trying to quit, but it’s also the most successful.

The research was done by the University of Louisville. All the data from the PATH study and calculated the usage and success rate of the various strategies.

Going cold turkey was the most popular method, not surprisingly. All anyone needs to implement this strategy is determination. E-cigarettes was the next most commonly used strategy. Out of the1 522 smokers went cold turkey, only 275 were successful, whilst 429 used vaping and 128 were successful. That’s a massive 27.88% success rate compared to 18.06% who went cold turkey.

The success rate of nicotine replacement therapies was 17.87% and prescription drugs 21.62%. The results beg the question that why e-cigarettes are still being vilified especially by government agencies.

This is not the only research that delivered the same results. Research by Rutgers and Colombia Universities as well as the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention are only some studies that correlate with the results discussed above.

Results like these are important in the fight for vaping rights as researchers are getting a clearer picture of how useful vaping can be especially when it comes to help smokers quit.
